Orchestra Auditions

 

  • The Fondazione Arturo Toscanini in Parma will be holding auditions for possible fixed-term contractual employment in its orchestras – according to the needs of its artistic planning - for the following roles:

 

THIRD HORN WITH FIRST HORN DUTY

 

SECTION HORN

 

PERCUSSIONS with the duty of all indefinite pitch instruments and definite pitch instruments (direct percussion) excluding the timpani

 

  • Requirements for admission to auditions:

 

- Italian or foreign citizenship (non EU citizens must have foreigners’ permit of stay and be eligible to work in Italy);

- minimum age of 18 years;

- a diploma from a Conservatoire or an officially recognized Music Institute, in the instrument for which the applicant intends to audition, or an equivalent certificate for diplomas obtained abroad;

 

 

  • Applications, completed as the form attached to the present regulation, must be filled in and accompanied by a brief professional curriculum and sent no later than 15 November 2009, by regular post, fax, or email to:

The post office stamp, fax or e-mail transmission date is proof of the application filing date.

The foundation is not responsible for eventual mistakes in postal delivery or in transmission.

 

 

  • The auditions will be held in Parma at the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, in Via G. Tartini 13, and will be held, except for unpredictable changes, between 5 and 7 December (notification of eventual date changes will be communicated immediately).

Candidates will be notified individually by the auditioning office, preferably by email.

Applicants must present themselves with a valid identification document.

The foundation will provide candidates with a piano accompanist.

The participation in the auditions implies the candidates’ unconditioned acceptance of the judgement of the Board of examiners.

Applicants are not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses.

  • W. A. Mozart: Concerto no. 3 in E-flat major KV 447

 

- Performance of the following “solos” and “excerpts” chosen by the Board of examiners:

  • W. A. Mozart: Così Fan Tutte
  • L. V. Beethoven: Symphonies no. 3, no.7 and no. 9
  • L. V. Beethoven: Fidelio
  • F. Mendelssohn: Symphony no. 3 Scottish Symphony
  • G. Rossini: Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Sinfonia (first horn)
  • V. Bellini: I Puritani (first horn)
  • H. Berlioz: Romeo and Juliet
  • G. Verdi: Aida (first horn)
  • R. Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

  • R. Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel (third horn)

For the PERCUSSION audition:

 

- Performance of the following studies:

 

  • From the method by Jacques Delécluse “Douze etudes pour caisse-claire”, Ed. Alphonse Leduc, Study no. 1 for drum.

 

  • From the method by Al Payson “Techniques of Playing Bass Drum, Cymbals and Accessories”, Ed. Payson Percussion Products, Cymbal Exercise page 46 and Bass-Drum Exercise page 35.

 

- Performance of the following “solos” chosen by the applicant:

 

  • A piece, of applicant’s choice, for solo vibraphone; the applicant must provide the musical material to the Board of examiners.

 

- Performance of the following “excerpts” chosen by the Board of examiners:

  • From the method by Hans Jochen Ulrich “Orchester Probespiel - Test Pieces for Orchestral Auditions - Timpani/Percussion”, Ed. Schott, all the pieces in the volume (excluding the ones for timpani).

- Possible first-sight reading.

 

The Board of examiners, composed of experts and appointed by the Secretary-General may, at its sole discretion, ask candidates to perform all or part of the audition program and reserves the right – prior to final judgement – to request an additional performance in the orchestra, even on a date following that of the audition.

  • Once the auditions are completed, the Board of examiners will draw up a ranking list of the suitable candidates that will be displayed on the notice board and published on the website of the foundation. There will be two separate lists for the Third horn with fist horn duty auditions and the Section horn auditions.
    • The rankings lists will be valid for 12 months from the date of approval by the President.
    • The foundation reserves the right to draw from the ranking list according to the needs of production for possible fixed-term employment, in accordance with the current legislation, as well as with the C.C.N.L (Contratto Collettivo Nazionale di Lavoro) and the additional company agreements of the foundation, in force.
  •  

    According to the art. 13, comma 1, of the D. Lgs. 30.6.2003 no. 196, the personal data provided by the applicants, will be collected by the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini and used, in addition to the participation in the audition, even after, for the possible establishment of an employment relationship and for the purposes related to the management of the relationship.

    The processing of the mentioned data can be done through the aid of electronic or automatic systems used to store, manage, and link the data items. The personal data items will be kept and controlled in order to minimize, through the adoption of suitable preventive security measures, the risk of loss, destruction, unauthorized access to the data or of processing operations that are unlawful or that do not conform with the purposes for which the data have been collected.

    The submittal of the data is mandatory for the evaluation of the requirements for the participation, under penalty of exclusion from the audition of the candidate.

    The data can be communicated only to the staff of the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini interested in the audition procedures and to the members, internal and external, who compose the Examining boards.

    Candidates may assert their rights as expressed in Articles 7, 8, 9 and 10 of D. Lgs of 30 June 2003 No. 196 by contacting the data controller.
